Xbox 360 Controller for Windows Installation Images

360 Controller Installation Label

So, check it. We just picked up an Xbox 360 for Windows controller the other day - you know, the one that is the exact same wired 360 controller that will be available for the Xbox 360, but at a price of $5 more because it comes with Windows XP installation software? Yeah, that’s the one. Nonetheless, we figured we would give you all a peek at exactly what your extra $5 gets you as we snapped images of the controller along with the installation process, which you can check out after the jump. By the way, we tried out the controller on Half-Life 2 and Battlefield 2 - no dice. The games need to be updated to add support for the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows. I expect that will happen fairly soon. For now, enjoy the photos.

Looks nice - too bad there is no software compatible as of yet.

There are valid reasons for wanting to use a pad with HL2, such as driving vehicles which have guns on. Arrow keys to steer/move that damn boat, Mouse to aim and fire. Helps to become ambidextrous I guess smile
I hope this will be compatible with HL2 and similar games in the near future. If Bungie can do it with Halo CE, then why not.

Hmm, no profile software? I like the new white/black button placement, but unless MS releases some good profile software I’ll be sticking with my Xbox controller and the XBCD Drivers.

I hope having a controller with analog triggers that’s backed by a big company will make developers include proper analog button support in their games from now on, having to se my triggers to an axis in order to get proper acceleration and braking is annoying.

OK SO I ALREADY HAVE AN XBOX CONTROLLER-S ON MY PC: using a converter and third party driver this works well on games like GTA: san andreas as it is already setup for gamepad, so there are games the 360 pad will work with, but this pad comes into its own when u use it with emulators such as ZSNES, which fully support the thumb sticks, as well as the d-pad and all buttons are supported, also these pads are gr8 for use with Project64 1.6 (N64 emu), I have pre ordered a 360 for windows pad, as they are not available here yet or are out of stock at the time of this message in the uk stores.....

I too have only got it to light up apon connecting it to the usb nce the drivers were installed. The controller lights for a quick flash and thats it !

I don’t even get the #1 quater part to light up either !@

The F’n drivers suck ! The reason cause Microsoft wants you to by the hooks ups so that you can use your PC like a 360 ! Check out E3 reviews on the Microsft live stuff !

Also the best free drivers are Pinnacle Game Profiler

The rumble works the triggers work , l and r buttons work everything very easy to map and config

Works great with Oblivion ..You can even you the controller as a stand alone controller for using Media Center and opeing apps and the internet smile

Full range of Both ;YES “ i said Both Analogs Sticks with full range and camra angles wink

    enjoy

I want to play ROMs on Project64 1.6 (N64 emulator) using a wireless Xbox 360 controller rather than using my laptops keyboard.

I’ve seen on the web different drivers (not by Microsoft) such as XBCD 360 which claims to allow you to configure the controller for use with certain games, i.e. set up a profile. But cant the Microsoft driver allow this? I’ve also heard of some problems with rumble. What do I need to allow all ROMs to work with rumble (if they support rumble)?

As of yet I do not have a 360 controller. I’m just a little confused with the stuff i need to download and do once I get a 360 controller.

    Thanx for the help.

I just purchased and installed my Xbox 360 controller to my PC. In the manual from the package gives a direct link to http://www.windowsgaming.com for the required software for the controller. Install the software 1st, then plug in the controller.

Hope this helps, I only read a few comments.

    cheers

Hi does anyone know if you can use the controller on the desktop as it would be very cool and it would be alot better as i am used to playing the 360

  • By at 5/5/08

Hey Dan, What do you mean use it on your desktop? I doubt you could use it like a mouse if that’s what you are referring to. The driver enables Windows to locate the controller as “Game Controllers” in the Control Panel, not a Mouse driver.
